Launching for the first time in India – HiT II ELISA
Besides bleeding Heparin induced Thrombocytopenia Type II ( HiT II) is an antibody- mediated serious side- effect of heparin treatment that can be associated with thromboembolic complications. Only about half of the patients who have HiT antibodies develop thrombocytopenia and a minority of those suffer from thrombosis.
HiT II appears typically 5-14 days after initiation of heparin. The platelet count drops more than 50% of the baseline ranging between 20-100/nl.
The diagnosis depends on both the appearance of one or more than one clinical features and the laboratory testing of HiT II specific antibodies. HiT II antibodies can be detected by functional tests or immunoassays. Using functional tests HiT II antibodies were measured indirectly via platelet activation in the presence of the patient’s sera and heparin. It allows a specific detection of the pathologic IgG antibodies due to their ability to activate platelets. In contrast, the immunoassays using a mixed conjugate (IgG, IgM, IgA) detect not only the IgG subclass but also the clinical less relevant IgM and IgA antibodies. That explains why both different methods show similar sensitivity values but the functional assays appear to have a higher positive predictive value than the immunoassays.
Our HiT II ELISA kit from Aesku is a novel and more specific assay for the diagnosis of heparin induced thrombocytopenia. The separate detection of IgG antibodies reduces enormously the number of false positive results while being very sensitive.
AESKULISA HiT II combines the reliable results of the functional assays and the easier handling of an ELISA.
In combination with the AESKULISA Protein C, the AESKULISA Protein S, and the worldwide most comprehensive antiphospholipid panel it is an excellent tool for thrombophilia and thrombosis testing.
